How Autovacuum Goes Wrong: And Can We Please Make It Stop Doing That?

In this talk, I'll explain how autovacuum decides which tables to vacuum and analyze and when to perform these operations, with an emphasis on how these algorithms can go wrong. Then, I'll discuss how feasible it would be to improve the autovacuum system so as to avoid some of these problems and what kind of infrastructure would be required in order to do so.
